Schoolhouse.world is a non-profit startup founded by Sal Khan with the mission of connecting the world through learning. Our peer tutoring platform empowers learners everywhere with free online tutoring over Zoom. We currently have thousands of users from 150+ countries, with plans to grow this platform to millions.
We're looking for a full-time software engineer who is passionate about making education and tutoring more accessible. As a key engineer on our team, you'll work in a fast-paced environment across the stack and own many projects end-to-end to shape the future of education!
One week you might be building a new full-stack assessments feature for tutors and learners around the world, and the next you might be ensuring our database and backend infrastructure can scale to support hundreds of thousands of users.
Outside of the engineering team, you'll collaborate closely with teammates in product, design, partnerships, and community.
You'll be a great fit if you...
What we offer:
We've iterated on our interview process over the past year or two and have arrived at a process we think is a lot more realistic and better than typical algorithms or whiteboard interviews. Currently, our process looks like this: 1. Intro calls with an engineering team member and the COO 2. A take-home project that involves building a simple web application using technologies like Typescript, Node.js, React, or Next.js 3. A two-hour block of interviews - one collaborative live debugging exercise and one database/API design exercise 4. Reference checks 5. A more casual meeting with a couple non-engineering team members
We are building an inclusive and equitable platform for students across the world. One of our main long-term company goals is to increase equity in education, and it’s important that our core team reflects those same principles too. We strongly encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply.
